Kaze vs The Shade - A Bonus Adventure Story

South of Kunnis – The New World
(One year before "The Shinigami Tomes" Vol. I. Chapter 2 events)

Kaze stood still as he stared at the creature before him. The Shade, a mystical being made of darkness and mana, stood guard to the third blood tome. It resembled a centenarian man, except for the consistency of its body, which was semitransparent, being miasma rather than flesh and blood. The tome laid on its stony pedestal in the heart of a great swamp as its guardian remained vigilant, levitating around it.
One year, it took Kaze to pinpoint the location of the third tome. It laid in a small marshland, south of Kunnis, a territory famous for its cold climate and copious marshlands.
The necromancer stood silent, kneeling behind a great willow, as the fierce demonic being levitated around the tome.
I must bind him to a physical object. In its ethereal form I am virtually powerless. Ops, I think he sensed me,” thought Kaze as the Shade suddenly stopped its repetitive wandering, and came to a halt, deeply staring at the great tree before its spectral body.
Abruptly, the miasmatic being, shrieked loudly as a myriad of black arrows appeared before its macabre figure, and bolted towards Kaze’s hiding place.
“RAION!” cried the necromancer, as the golden vines depicted on the leather covering his right arm, came to life and entwined forming a thick shield, which deflected the incoming arrows.
“Black Magic: Mana Blades!”
The magical blades trespassed the mystical being, with no effect. Without a moment hesitation, the necromancer closed the gap towards his foe, which had in the meantime summoned an ethereal black sword. As the two stood inches from each other, and the merciless blade of the Shade came down upon Kaze’s unshielded neck, the agile necromancer bit his wrist, and using his blood as catalyst shouted “By blood I give command, Blood Magic: Blood Katana!”
The impact was fearsome. The simple pressure wave from the contact point between the two mystical blades reverberated deep into the marshland. The golden cage artefact laid on the wet soil near the old willow tree, as Kaze’s necrotic right arm hold tightly the blood katana.
“You thought I couldn’t wield ethereal blades? Mph, you spirits, always thinking so little of us mortals,” smirked the necromancer, grinding his teeth as he withstood the beastly force of the merciless Shade.
“I will end this now… Blood Magic: Pentagonal Seal!” The bloodied left hand of the young mage grabbed the eerie head of his nemesis as a sudden glow appeared from within his palm. Thousands of scarlet lines bolted from his glowing hand, and enveloped the ethereal creature, thrusting themselves on the sinking ground below its feet.
“Uoooooooo!”
The sudden cry of the Shade echoed in the marshland as its body succumbed under the sealing enchantment of the necromancer.
Then, safely sealing his accursed right arm with the aid of the golden cage, Kaze slowly walked towards the dreaded blood tome.
As he silently stared at the ancient artefact before him, only one word whirled into the abyss of his mind.
“Father”
